Five reasons why you may not be seeing results.
I have talked to friends, clients, and even myself in the mirror, and one of the biggest questions I get is, “Why am I not seeing any progress?” This is a manageable list, but here are five common reasons that you may not be progressing like you would like to.
1. You don’t have good, set goals or a plan for what you are going to do once you get there. But here’s the thing, you have the power to change that. It’s not wrong if you are just going to get movement in and just do what you feel like, but it might not be the most effective way for you to bring about manageable results.
So, take charge and set SMART goals for yourself. Either hire a trainer or look into how to create your own program and try to stick to that for 4-6 weeks and slowly start to progress. When you have a game plan, you are much better equipped to play the game. Make the most out of the time that you have!
2. You have been doing the same thing for too long and have either gotten too good or lost enjoyment. But guess what? You have the freedom to change that. The second problem I see a lot of people make is that they stick with the EXACT same program, reps, tempo, and load for way too long. They either end up becoming too comfortable in one movement where they are no longer putting any stress or fatiguing their body in any way which is needed to get better, or they start to get bored of their routine and stop putting the work in.
So, embrace the excitement of trying something new. Switch up your program every once in a while. If you want to go crazy, maybe try even trying a whole new training style. You don’t have to let fitness get boring, do what you love because you love doing it. Some of those past workouts or exercise types may no longer serve you. You are allowed to change and try new things; it is what keeps life interesting.
3. You are neglecting your nutrition. Like I’ve said, nutrition is the other 80%, and it’s one of the hardest parts (trust me, I feel you). Whether you are eating too much or not, your diet tremendously impacts your overall performance and physique goals. But here’s the good news, you’re not alone in this journey. Figure out what your body needs to reach those beautiful smart goals you set for yourself. And if you need help, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Feel free to DM me with any questions. I love talking about nutrition, and I am completely open to helping you walk through a simple plan if you need it ❤
4. You aren’t trying as hard as you think. I have found myself in this boat, where I could be training a lot harder. I could go up in weight or run longer, but I’m scared of looking dumb and failing. Push yourself to be better than you were yesterday. Spend less time on your phone during rest sets and more time being present in the moment. Focus on your range of motion and put all your energy into being your best.
I love the term “training like an athlete.” Even if you aren’t an athlete, I find that for many of my clients, setting performance goals helps to keep them more focused on their workouts because their goal is to beat a time or to pick up something a little heavier instead of revolving their life on the number of a scale.
5. You need to be more consistent. The last one is one of the biggest reasons many people struggle to make progress. They just need to be more consistent. They want to change but will only get discouraged if it feels like it’s coming quickly enough. This can best be helped if you set time frame goals for yourself.
Small milestones can be encouraging because each time you hit it, you get a slight tap of dopamine that pushes you to get going. You will have days with no motivation, but if you build yourself to be more disciplined because you know that you can be better and stay consistent with your plan and nutrition, you will soon see the results of your labor.
In conclusion, it’s important to have a plan and set SMART goals. Try new things, push yourself, focus on nutrition, and stay consistent. By addressing these common problems, you will soon see progress from all the hard work you’ve been putting in. Keep up the good work – I am proud of you!
