“Anything worth doing is worth doing imperfectly.”
Just hear me out. If there is something in your life that you want to do, do it. Don’t hold back just because you think you won’t be able to do it perfectly. Many of us spend so much time planning and trying to execute something perfectly that we miss out on the experience of trying something new or putting our creativity out into the world.
The thing you want to try might fail, but remember that failing is better than not trying at all. Thomas Edison tried 10,000 times to create the light bulb, and instead of focusing on what wasn’t working, he used the knowledge he gained from trying to find a solution.
Don’t live in your head. Instead of constantly problem-solving and creating, you might refuse to put anything into action. Things and people fail, but just because you fail doesn’t mean you’re a failure. No one’s first work is perfect, not an artist’s first painting, a writer’s first story, or a singer’s first song. Absolutely nothing starts out perfect.
I urge you to treat today going forward as a rough draft. Start laying the groundwork for what you want your life to be, and over time, as you learn and grow, you can polish the parts of you that still need work.
You need to build the house before you decorate the interior. Your life is what you make of it, and what you get out of the world will correlate to what you choose to put into it. Imperfect work is better than no work at all. There is so much beauty when it comes to falling the first time. We like to hear people talk about the hours they put in, the struggles they went through, and the rough experiences that made them who they are.
Your rough draft of life will be your start, but it should in no way be your end. A final draft can take months to years to create. So be consistent and keep perfecting your craft. With all that said, I want to remind you that your experiences are not who you are. Your past does not define you, but it does shape you. Your reaction to your failures is what shapes the person you are now.
Go out and create a life that you are proud of. Enjoy the rough edges and allow your reactions to shape the person you are so you can create a better tomorrow.
