A quote I recently came across resonated with me: ‘If you were magically given your dream body, could you maintain it with the knowledge you have now?’ This thought-provoking question made me realize that, like many of us, I probably wouldn’t. We often set lofty expectations for our diet and exercise goals, yet we’re usually unwilling to take the necessary actions to achieve them, even if we know what needs to be done.
You’ve probably heard the discouraging statistic that about 90% of people who go on a diet gain the weight back. It’s also true that diets themselves can majorly contribute to weight gain. But here’s the thing: you don’t have to be part of that statistic. You have the power to change your outcome.
One of the main reasons diets often fail is our society’s obsession with instant results. We want to see changes quickly and with minimal effort. However, sustainable weight loss is straightforward and challenging. It requires a shift in mindset and a commitment to long-term health, not just a quick fix.
Refrain from getting discouraged about how long it may take to lose weight or gain muscle; that time and effort you put in helps you to gain character. It would help if you created a lifestyle change. If you choose a crash diet option, you may be able to keep the weight off, but you will quickly return to your old habits since you didn’t ever conquer the learning curve and know how to care for your body. Choose sustainability for your weight loss, and remember not to be so focused on the goal that you miss out on the processes and small achievements you make.
